"Wherever I Stand," the cinematic single from Taproot's fourth LP, shows the band hasn't moved far outside of the formulas that won them chart success and major label deals during the alt metal boon of the last decade, even after lackluster sales saw a departure from Atlantic. Stephen Richards' vocals rise over stormy surges of growling basslines and layers of smoothy compressed, distorted guitars. The collection's most interesting moment comes with the lethargic dissonance and female guest vocals on "It's Natural."
