Terry Callier

The singer-songwriter Terry Callier had a long, distinguished career under the radar until he was feted by longstanding British fans such as Paul Weller, Beth Orton and Massive Attack, the last of whom collaborate with him here. Sharing a psychedelic folk/soul/jazz aesthetic, Massive Attack's brooding, cinematic backing blends well with Callier's songs. New tracks "Once I Dreamed of Heaven" and "Rice and Beans" are gripping, though we give the edge to Callier's earlier recording of "Sunset Boulevard."
