The Chevelles

About

This Aussie power pop quartet formed in Perth in 1989 and released its debut, Gigantic, in 1993. In the midst of the grunge revolution, their sweet harmonies, sugary hooks and penchant for hand-claps could not have been more out of step, and yet they sold out venues around the world. In 1995, the group released their sophomore effort, Rollerball Candy, another tomb overflowing with serrated guitars and sweet hooks. A string of drummers followed, as did a string of record labels in a variety of countries. The Chevelles had carved out a huge following in Spain early on, and it was here that the band found most of its success in the '90s. In 1999, the band laid down the tracks (including a cover of Air Supply's "Lost in Love") that would make up the Sunbleached EP, which San Francisco's Zip Records released in late 2000. A hugely successful tour of Brazil was done in support of the band's hits package, Delirium, after which the Chevelles hit the recording studio again. Girl God was released in Australia in 2002 and in the United States in 2008. That same year, the Chevelles signed with Little Steven's Wicked Cool Records.
