The Clientele's first proper album casts even more diffuse rays than their genteel singles collection Suburban Light. But stick with these outwardly pretty tunes, and the shifting emotion and inward beauty of such songs as "Everybody's Gone," "Missing" and "Porcelaine" start to reveal themselves -- disappearing just as you're about to grasp them fully.
