The Cure

Accurately titled, the stylistically diverse Wild Mood Swings sailed to No. 12 in the U.S. pop charts without the aid of their usual breakout single. This sounded dated in 1996, but it's held up pretty well with the unheralded "Strange Attraction" clocking in as one of the best upbeat numbers on this musically bipolar disc.

Unfortunately, there's nothing especially wild about Wild Mood Swings, the Cure's first
studio album in four years. In fact, the song remains much the same: Singer and guitarist
Robert Smith continues looking for the perfect love, swooning when he thinks he's found
it, collapsing wrecked when (inevitably) he's disappointed. When he's inspired, however,
