Soon after forming in 2001, the Early November put together a five-track demo in frontman Ace Enders' basement and sent it to Drive-Thru Records. After an in-person meeting, the band persuaded Drive-Thru co-owner Richard Reines to sign them. Despite minimal stage experience, the Early November were booked for select dates on 2002's Warped Tour and the Skate and Surf Fest. The touring helped spread the word about their energetic stage presence and relatively unique acoustic/electric emo musical style to a wider audience, which in turn amped up the anticipation for the release of their debut EP, For All of This, in November 2002. Heavily influenced by Bob Dylan, the Early November focus most of their tracks on nimble acoustic guitar and storytelling lyricism. They went on to release a prolific second LP, complete with 47 tracks, which peaked at No. 31 on Billboard's Top 200 chart. Even with that success, the band members were ready to go their separate ways, first announcing an indefinite hiatus in spring 2007 and then carrying out a farewell tour that same year.
