The Pipettes

This EP is a little coming-out fete for the U.K.'s much-hyped Pipettes before their full-length debut finally gets released in the U.S. in August. But these debutantes might sound familiar -- and not just because they've been burning up hipster podcasts and P2P networks since they got together around 2004. These ardent anachronists sound like it's the early '60s all over again, resuscitating the girl-group sound with a revivalist's meticulousness, a lo-fi punk production aesthetic and a wit that's ironic without being mocking. Just call them retro riot grrrls.
