The Shanghai Restoration Project

The Shanghai Restoration Project re-imagines the architecture of popular music past and present, near and far, crisscrossing time and space to cobble together Chinese classical and folk music, the jazz band sound of 1930s Shanghai, and contemporary hip-hop and electronic music. This collection of instrumental-only nuts and bolts, the Project's second, showcases boundary-busting beats and breaks, out of which producer Dave Liang and a shifting cadre of his peers construct their experimental (and yet somehow very familiar) grooves.
