Emulating the concrete sheen of his hometown, Detroit, Mich., Dale Lawrence taps into the history of Detroit Techno and is a prime exponent of its new minimalist wave. Working with the sounds of late '90s Techno minutia, his delicate rhythms float in the mix with the likes of artists from German labels Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, and his Detroit peers like Speedy J and Richie Hawtin's latest Concept. His forms are soft architectural renderings, faintly sketched out. They refer to rectilinear structures, precariously fastened, ready to collapse at the subtlest seismic activity.
