Thornetta Davis

About

Detroit singer Davis has the kind of earth-shaking soul music shout that music fans dream about. She began singing professionally at the age of 15 and worked with a series of Motor City R&B and cover bands before an association with the Punk/Metal/Funk band Big Chief helped her to reach a larger audience. After singing on their Sub Pop releases and their major label debut, Davis was offered her own deal from Sub Pop. Using most of Big Chief as her band, she cut a record of Blues Rock songs that crossed the fury of bands like the Stooges and MC5 with the Blues Rock vocal chops of Koko Taylor. Davis' range extends to all sorts of ballads and slow blues as well. Davis has also worked with a virtual who's who of Detroit artists, including Bob Seger.
