Thrice

Intrigued by the book Alchemy and Mysticism: The Hermetic Museum, Thrice not only focus on the secular concept of the four elements in this four volume set, but also on the sonic elements that make up their post-hardcore/atmospheric-rock sound. On this first half of the project, Dustin Kensrue's abrasive growls and Teppei Teranishi's swelling guitars signify the fire, while quaint, slow passages evoke water. Stylistically stepping forward, Thrice prove they're not afraid of change, moving away from their scenester roots and toward ambient dream pop on this curveball of a concept album.
