She was much more than "the female Nick Drake." Vashti Bunyan's featherweight inflections lilt above the hushed, acoustic accompaniment, slow dancing with playful, nursery rhyme whimsy and pastoral, rainy day melancholia. Her 1970 debut was produced by folk luminary Joe Boyd. Undiscovered in its time, Just Another Diamond Day built a gradual snowball of cultured fandom decades after its release. It's also kind of funny how Just Another Diamond Day inspired the music and Holly Hobby-esque fashions of the freak folk movement, considering that these gossamer lullabies are hardly freakish.
