Description of Vocal-Pop

The lighter side of vocal music, Vocal Pop flourished in the 1950s and '60s, occupying the middle ground between easy, wholesome music and the raucous noise called rock 'n' roll that began to take the nation by storm. Artists like the Lettermen and Fabian rode the crest of the wave of its popularity. Vocal Pop encompasses the smooth harmonies of the Andrews Sisters and lighter, more recent artists like the Carpenters and Bette Midler, stretching into the present day to artists like Michael Bolton and Whitney Houston.
