Coming out of Baton Rouge, Webbie got his start on the mic at 12 years old, linking up with a cousin to form a rap duo. After they split up, he hooked up with local label Trill Entertainment and began recording demos. As an independent artist, working alongside Lil' Boosie and others, Webbie released Ghetto Stories and Gangsta Muzik, both of which moved impressive numbers in the booming southern scene. In the summer of 2005, Webbie went national thanks to crunked-out singles like "Give Me That" (with Bun B) and "Bad Bitch." His major label debut Savage Life dropped soon after.
