Widespread Panic

Light Fuse Getaway, from 1998, was the first official document of Widespread Panic's marathon live sets, which had already been a staple of tape-trading circles for years. The obvious touchstones are the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Band, but those are a bit too easy. The Panic's sweeping country-blues funk owes a lot to J.J. Cale, whose "Travelin' Light" is covered here. Of course, Cale would pass out if he tried to keep up with these guys, who unleash over two hours of unbridled jammery.
