Description of Lovers Rock

In the mid-1970s, dubmaster/producer Dennis Bovell made a reggae version of Donnie Elbert's soul tune "Caught You in a Lie" with vocalist Louisa Marks. What made the recording unique was the style in which it was performed, with a strong sound of female sensuality yet with enough modern soul in it to appeal to fans of heavy Roots Reggae. The bands still playing in this tradition have enjoyed greater success in Britain than their native Jamaica.
