Longtime fans of Zap Mama felt a little betrayed when A Ma Zone came out in 1999. Offended by the duet with ?estlove and the electronic beats, they wanted to know where the a cappella magic that had kept them spellbound for years had gone. But the group was ready to veer into more urbane territory and, for all the feathers they ruffled, they did it remarkably well.
